What To Do When You Don’t Feel Like Working Out
By Jason Curlee

Let’s be honest, there are going to be days when you flat-out aren’t feeling it. For whatever the reason; lack of energy, lack of motivation, busyness, etc. Some of those days may be even legitimate.

Yesterday was one of those days for me. I so DID NOT feel like working out. I let it get late and was already lacking the motivation. Dangerous combination by the way.

I fought through several moments of delay, lack of motivation, feeling tired and pretty much flat-out not wanting to do it. I ended up running my best mile since high school I think at 7min 13sec, I had my best plank of the week at 4min 12 sec, and then we did a 30 min workout with Les Mills Combat.

All that lack of everything and I ended up putting together a great workout in spite of it all.

So how can you deal with it when you have those days. Here are four ways:

  1. Work Out Anyway – Some days to be honest you just need to push through. Just like I did. Drag your rear end up and just do it.
  2. Lighten Your Load – Know your body…cut back a little in length or amount but still go hard.
  3. Take A Rest Day – Maybe you’ve been working out hard and your body is just beat down. If you’ve been going after it day after day maybe a rest day or even two is needed to recharge.
  4. Change Your Workout – Sometimes we get in a funk and our same routine becomes just that, a routine. Change it up…try something new…participate in a challenge. Try a whole new workout, like Insanity or Combat that will push you in new ways.

The key is that there will be times you just don’t feel it. Know yourself well in those times and adjust to keep your progress moving.

What other ways have you used to push through days like this?
